✨ A FEW REFLECTIONS ON THE EDULETTER ✨
I started the Eduletter not knowing if anyone would read it. I had this idea that surface designers and creative business owners needed a weekly nudge that was positive, encouraging, and actually helpful. Sort of like a friend in your inbox sharing useful stuff.
A few things I didn’t expect:
You actually read them. You reply to them. You tell me when a tip worked. You tell me when a tip didn’t (which I love, by the way. Keep doing that).
The issues that got the most responses often surprised me. Issue #4 was a “facepalm moment” piece I almost didn’t send because I wasn't sure how sharing my mistakes would land. Vulnerability is not my jam. But I ended up sending it: the one where I poured my heart and soul into a design for a client and it never saw the light of day because I didn't understand the assignment. It got more replies than any issue that year. Lesson learned. Honesty is good, even if it's a little embarrassing.
Some of the tech I wrote about in 2024 is already obsolete. Tools come and go. Platforms change. Spoonflower rolled out a new upload system. Etsy changed its rules. Instagram changed their algorithm 100 times. (Not really. But it feels like it.) Oh, and AI came along.
So yeah, things will continue to change, but you know what isn't going to change? There will never be an easy button. That's why I lean harder every year on systems and frameworks.
The community side of this is what I’m most proud of. I have met some of my best designer friends through the reply button. You tell me about your patterns getting picked up, your shops crossing milestones, your kids interrupting your drawing sessions, and your own coffee addictions. You have made these 100 newsletters so much better, given me suggestions, advice, and support. If we’ve corresponded, you know who you are, thank you.
